# 006 | Green Field Recordings Xarhope On The Road | Radio Taxi Beirut
"Radio taxi beirut" is a traffic piece recorded mainly on the streets of beirut during the begining of february, with a usual portatil mp3 player. The recording starts on the blue mosque zone and martyrs square, in the 14 of february, the memory day for the assassination of the prime minister Rafic Baha El Deen Al-Hariri. There was a a huge mass of people in the squere, flags everywhere, some of them were there with political reason another ones just having fun. We can hear the sounds of people screaming, the politicians discursing, the songs coming from the mosque and at the same time the bells of the maronite church. The place was surrounded by securities and police and sometimes is possible to listen their white noise radios. The cars stucked aroud the place of the manifestation dont stopped honking and the taxi drivers calling with special lengalenga the trausents. In Hamra street, the rich zone of beirut the gipsy girls are still trying to sell their packets of chiclets to turists and militars, and inside the european coffee shops the chic people stay alienated from everything and is possible to hear the pink noise of their thinkings. The midle part of the recording is passed inside a taxi, driving from the city center to the armenian neighbourghood Bourj Hammoud, in this part we can listen the news in arabic, short talks of the taxi driver and my friend Carmen playing jaw's harp and the traffic noise outside. In Bourj Hammoud, the ambulant bread seller, screams from his bicycle âya karim!â. There are too the street coffee sellers with a big steel thermus and a short bell in the hand calling for the possible clients, they go inside shops, they go inside the taxis, they go inside buildings in construction to invite the workers doing a break. we can hear very well the construction noises that never end, this city is still in reconstruction, the civil war was not so long ago. Popcorn blowing before we enter in our flat in Bourj Hammoud. In the last part of the recording we can hear the girls trying to open a bottle of wine, trying everything less a bottle opener, and all the conversation circulates around the bottle, with litle laughing over reagga music and the birds outside ends the job.
